Music In The Park
One sunny Saturday last September the CSOL took their instruments to the park (Marion Square) at the corner of Meeting and Calhoun Streets for children to become acquainted with them.
Many children tried an instrument from the selection: the cello, the violin, the trombone and the trumpet. The sounds they created were sometimes pleasing, sometimes surprising and sometimes not much at all. But, success can be measured by how many children want to learn to play an instrument after this kind of exposure.
The CSOL annually sets aside $30,000 to supply scholarships to talented children who are pursuing musical training.
