Scholarship Opportunities for Young Musicians

2008 Summer Study Scholarship winner, Jonathen HeywardIn 2008, CSOL® will award $30,000 in scholarships to Charleston tri-county residents. These scholarships are offered to graduating seniors planning to major in music in college, members of the Youth Orchestra of the Lowcountry and Charleston Symphony Orchestra, and students planning a summer music study activity. All funds are paid directly to the program or instructor.

All student auditions are usually held at the beginning of March at the Recital Hall, Simons Center for the Arts, 54 St. Philip Street. All Audition space is provided as a courtesy by the College of Charleston, Department of Music.

$2000 College Scholarships

Offered to: Graduating high school seniors who plan to major in music in college.
Requirements: Application with a minimum GPA of 2.5, SAT score of 1000, letters of recommendation, and a successful audition
Number offered: Up to four scholarships

2008 Matching Grant winner, Matthew Kwon Matching Grant Awards

The CSOL offers $200 per semester ($400 total), matched by the parent or guardian, for private music study.

Offered to: Members of the Youth Orchestra of the Lowcountry
Requirements: YOLow membership, application, and successful audition
Number offered: Up to five scholarships

Student Summer Study Awards

Offered to: Tri-county instrumental and voice music students
Requirements: Application, involvement in current musical study, successful audition, and proof of summer study plans.

Summer Study for Charleston Symphony Orchestra Members

Eligible members of the CSO may apply for funds to be used for private lessons, master classes, summer music programs or other specific courses of study. The application must be postmarked by Friday, April 11, 2008. Interviews will take place at Meeting Room B of the Charleston County Library, Calhoun Street, on Monday, April 21, 2008.
